Asatsuyugahara
It’s been a year since we moved to our new house, in the North Ward of Kyoto, near Kamigamo shrine. Just across the street, the Kamo River makes its way slowly through what is called Asatsuyugahara-cho.I found this particular name to be extremely poetic: imagine the rise of the sun over a green field wet with morning dew, and you’ll have the meaning of the name I’m talking about.
There is more than just the name, however. Nature reigns almost supremely here, with its beautiful display of wild life, making you forget you’re living in a 1.5 million people city.
If you take a walk in the fresh morning to watch the the fish dancing in the river’s clear water, or to chuckle at the wakeup ritual of the wild ducks, chances are you’ll fall in love with the place. I did!
