Moon Viewers

Moon Viewers

Shimogamo Shrine“The clouds come and go
providing a rest for all
moon viewers.”

(Matsuo Bash?)

We enjoyed a superb evening yesterday, at the Moon Viewing Festival at Shimogamo-jinja. The weather was in perfect resonance with the collective wish of all of us present there, allowing us to witness the full moon shining brightly as it rose over the trees surrounding the shrine.

I didn’t expect the program of the event to be so rich, and certainly not 4 hours long, but every little demonstration of art was truly delightful: from the sensibility of the koto and shakuhachi tones, to the captivating kagura that marked the closing of the festival. Add to these the red flames of the burning torches, and the aroma of green tea floating in the air…

At the end, the silent moonlit temple garden suddenly seemed thrown into a distant past, and you wished it stayed there just a little bit more, so you could keep enjoying its splendor.

I committed this night to the memory, and I’m looking forward to experiencing some more. (Photos to come soon, too!)

I think I promised some photos, didn’t I? Well, after sorting through some 200 photos that I took a couple of days ago, I managed to come up with this selection of 20 pictures. Here they are for you to enjoy, and it would be also nice if you clicked on the upper right button of the slide show and left your comments or rating!

I don’t remember exactly when, but some time ago I decided to close my Slide account (or, at least, to delete my slideshows there)… Anyway, I guess I’ll be putting out some new galleries one of these days.
